Brussels opens its doors to Ukraine: A new strategy in the EP
The European Union is considering a historic step by allowing Ukraine to join the bloc, even if the conflict with Russia is not fully resolved. This position was expressed by Pekka Toveri, chair of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
"Accepting Kyiv is a clear signal to Moscow that Ukraine's future is in Europe and that Russia has no right of veto," commented Toveri.
Why is this important?
- Strategic deterrence: Postponing membership would be an "invitation" for Russia to continue military actions with the goal of blocking European integration.
- Precedent: The EU points to historical examples where countries joined despite the existence of territorial disputes.
- Security: Brussels emphasizes that EU membership does not mean the direct involvement of the union in an open military conflict.
This move represents a decisive geopolitical turn aimed at stabilizing the region and guaranteeing Kyiv's sovereignty in the long term.
