BYD's strategic investment in the Brazilian state of Bahia marks a significant moment for electric mobility in Latin America. The company is launching a production line that will generate around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs in the Camaçari region.

The decision comes on the eve of tightening import duties, with BYD getting ahead of restrictive trade conditions. The previous import of 22,000 electric vehicles during the first five months of the year will be replaced by local assembly.

According to statements by Alexandre Baldi, Executive Vice President of BYD Brazil, full production capacity will be reached in July 2026. This plan includes assembly from imported kits (CKD), which will allow for a more flexible and cost-effective production strategy.

Despite challenges such as weather conditions and ongoing investigations into labor practices, the company remains focused on expanding its market share. Local production is expected to reduce costs and improve BYD's competitive position in the Brazilian automotive sector.
