Both truck drivers died when their lorries collided head-on near Maslarevo on the Ruse–Sofia road. All 36 passengers on a bus that ploughed into the burning trucks are unhurt. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The crash happened at about 2:30am on Wednesday, between Strahilovo and Maslarevo. Both trucks caught fire, and the bus, which was travelling from Thessaloniki to Bucharest, hit them. The passengers got out before the bus also caught fire.

They were put up in Polski Trambesh, where a crisis centre was opened. Examining the scene took more than 15 hours yesterday.

The technical inspection certificate for one of the trucks had expired. The Automobile Administration has started checks on the transport company that owns the truck.

The driver of the Hungarian truck has not yet been identified, so prosecutors in Veliko Tarnovo have asked for international help.
