A team of researchers from GUARD Archaeology and the local municipal administration of Angus announced an epochal archaeological discovery that changes the understanding of prehistoric social structures. On July 8, 2025, an exceptional architectural monument dating back 6,000 years was documented.

The revealed monumental wooden structure impresses with its incredible dimensions – 35 meters long and 9 meters wide. The construction, predating the famous Stonehenge by about a millennium, testifies to the high engineering skills of the ancient inhabitants of the region.

Archaeological studies revealed a total of 18 separate structures, including a central ceremonial hall and an additional residential building. An extremely significant element of the find is the bronze hoard, containing impressive artifacts – a sword in its original scabbard, a gold ornament, and various bronze weapons.

The time span of the findings covers the period between 4000 BC and 924 BC, providing a unique insight into the evolution of human settlements in this region.

The scientific community defines the discovery as key evidence that Neolithic farming communities in Scotland were complex social centers, not isolated settlements. The find reveals deep roots of European social and religious traditions, demonstrating the continuity of human cultural evolution.

The bronze hoard further enriches our understanding of the relationships between different prehistoric cultures, confirming the thesis of dynamic cultural exchanges during the Bronze Age.
