The Chengene Skele fishing village served as the setting for an informal and unconventional meeting between the Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, and the Minister of Tourism, Ilin Dimitrov. The two officials decided to fulfill a long-standing promise by organizing a joint culinary demonstration. At the heart of the event was the preparation of traditional seafood delicacies, including Burgas-style mussels and mussels grilled on a metal sheet. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the presence of local fishermen who brought in their fresh catch, blending culinary art, discussions about tourism, and a tribute to local maritime traditions in the presence of community representatives.
Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov explained to the BurgasMedia team that the occasion for this event was a bet made four years ago. At the time, the two had a disagreement regarding tourist interest in the coastal city: "I had said that we would have more tourists, and he said, 'Let's see.' And here we are, fulfilling our agreement. The idea was to show that there is nothing better than our Black Sea coast," he shared, emphasizing the symbolism of their meeting.
During the cooking process, Mayor Dimitar Nikolov confidently stepped into the role of a chef, highlighting his skills: "I've been cooking fish since I was born, so I have no worries," he boasted to those present. Minister Ilin Dimitrov, a graduate of the College of Tourism in Varna, also showcased his culinary interests and admitted that he enjoys cooking. During the meeting, the minister noted that the tourist season had started somewhat hesitantly, but current data indicates that figures are gradually approaching last year's levels. Dimitrov emphasized that the development of the season remains a top priority for the ministry, which continues to work on issues such as communication with tourists and the operation of temporary tourist offices at the seaside.
The meeting was not only culinary in spirit but also touched upon important public topics. Minister Dimitrov took the opportunity to congratulate Mayor Nikolov on successfully hosting "Eurovision," describing the event as "a victory not only for Burgas but for the entire Black Sea coast." As a sign of respect and good partnership, the minister gifted the Burgas mayor an icon of "St. Nicholas the Wonderworker." After finishing the preparation of the seafood specialties and tasting them, the two participants gave their dishes a high rating, describing the result with the word "super."
