Absolute precedent: Hollywood star Dimitar Marinov will lead an acting class in Burgas

BURGAS — The world-renowned Bulgarian actor Dimitar Marinov, who has an successful career in Hollywood, will set an absolute precedent for the country by teaching at the "Lyuben Groys" Theatre College in Burgas. For the first time, a star of this caliber will lead a film acting class at a Bulgarian educational institution, providing a unique opportunity for future talents to learn from the experience and knowledge of the center of the film industry.

On September 1 and 2, free consultations will be held at the NHC Cultural House, giving candidates a chance to get acquainted with the college's program and requirements. Entrance exams are scheduled for later in the month — on September 25, 26, and 27. The event is expected to attract exceptional interest among young people and art lovers from the entire region.

Marinov's career in Hollywood is a string of successes that officially began in 2009. After passing through 17 interviews in just two weeks, he signed a contract with one of the most prestigious agencies in Beverly Hills — "Wilhelmina/Aperture." Just two days later, the actor received his first casting for the large-scale film "Act of Valor" (2012). It was with this project that Dimitar Marinov made history as the first Bulgarian actor to step onto the world-famous "red carpet."

His successes continued at a rapid pace. His second casting was for a mega-commercial for Nikon with Ashton Kutcher, which was broadcast nationally for 13 months. A series of remarkable advertising campaigns followed, in which Marinov partnered with iconic names such as William Shatner, Sofia Vergara, and Jeff Bridges. In 2014, he also became the "face" of the automotive giant Nissan, and from November 2024 until now, the actor has been part of a massive campaign for Amazon.

In television, Marinov has also made a strong impression, appearing as a guest star in numerous American series. He has acted alongside stars of the caliber of Kiefer Sutherland, Andy Samberg, Matthew Perry, Zach Galifianakis, Robert Patrick, Bill Hader, and many others.

The culmination of his career so far was in 2017, when he won a supporting-lead role in the Hollywood production "Green Book," a joint project of Steven Spielberg (DreamWorks) and Universal Studios, directed by Peter Farrelly. In the film, Marinov co-stars with Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, who in 2017 won an Oscar for his role in "Moonlight." The film was a huge success and in 2019 was honored with the most prestigious award in cinema — the Academy Award for "Best Picture."

In addition to being an actor, Dimitar Marinov also excels as a successful teacher. In 2018, he founded "Marinov Actors Studio" in partnership with Hollywood Actors Studio. Just one year later, in 2019, he also opened the first Bulgarian academy for screen arts in Sofia, which operates according to his own program. Now, with the opening of the class in Burgas, he continues his mission to share his invaluable experience with young Bulgarian talents, opening doors for them to a world that for many remains only a dream.
