Today, September 17, Sofia celebrates its holiday. The festive atmosphere is palpable in the city, as if the cobblestone streets themselves are rejoicing in the celebration.

The Sofia Municipality has prepared a rich program consisting of over 50 events, the press center reported. The celebration of September 17 as Sofia Day was officially established by a decision of the Sofia Municipal Council on March 25, 1992, as noted in the BTA"s Internal Information" bulletin. The choice of this date is connected to the church holiday of the holy martyrs Faith, Hope, and Love and their mother Sophia, a name that reflects the city_q_s deep historical and spiritual connection with Christianity.

The official website of the Sofia Municipality emphasizes that the name Sofia originates from the Basilica of St. Sophia, one of the oldest active churches in Europe and an extremely important architectural monument from the early centuries of Christianity.

According to the Ordinance on the Symbolism and Distinctions of the Sofia Municipality, adopted by Decision 23 of December 20, 2007, Sofia Day is also marked by a ceremonial session of the Sofia Municipal Council, at which honorary distinctions are awarded. This traditional event is a symbol of the official celebration of the holiday and a tribute to those who have contributed to the development of the city. This year, as in previous years, a ceremonial ceremony is expected to be held, emphasizing the importance of Sofia Day for the residents of the capital.
