Bulgarian police officers fight crime every day and often risk their lives, interior minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said on Facebook as the country marked Police Day today.
He said the day is not really a professional holiday, because "police officer" is not a profession. Being a police officer is not a job title but a calling, he wrote.
That calling often brings danger, but officers do their duty anyway, Demerdzhiev said.
He added that today is also Archangel Michael's Day. For that reason, he said, the holiday matters not only to the Interior Ministry but to all Christians.
