Democratic Bulgaria asks OFAC: Is there evidence of bribes from Vasil Bozhkov to Boyko Borisov?

Democratic Bulgaria has sent an inquiry to the US Department of the Treasury regarding a document linking Boyko Borisov to payments from Vasil Bozhkov. Answers are also being sought from the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office.

DB notifies OFAC and the Prosecutor's Office following BIRD revelations

The “Democratic Bulgaria” (DB) coalition has taken decisive action following a document published by the investigative website BIRD. The matter concerns evidence presented before the Federal Court in the District of Columbia, in which Vasil Bozhkov claims that he made payments to Boyko Borisov and Vladislav Goranov in exchange for business benefits.

"In the document, the described conduct is viewed as bribery for the purposes of the applicable sanctions regime," stated the DB press office.

Demand for an investigation by the Prosecutor's Office and SANS

DB insists that the acting Prosecutor General and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) conduct an immediate investigation into the information. The coalition asks:

Co-chairman of “Yes, Bulgaria” Ivaylo Mirchev called on Borisov to provide clear answers without political theater or to withdraw from public life, instead of talking about “uniting the right.”
