After nearly two decades in the UK, Dr. Kostadin Petkov is once again part of the team at UMBAL Burgas. He worked at the medical facility in Burgas from the early 90s, first as a trainee, then as a doctor specializing in 'General Surgery' with additional qualifications in laparoscopic surgery. From 1999 to 2003 he was the deputy director of medical activities. In 2008 he moved to the United Kingdom and was a surgeon in several medical institutions, the longest – in large municipal hospitals in Lincoln and Grimsby.
Today, Dr. Petkov works in the First Department of Surgery and routinely applies modern laparoscopic surgical techniques.
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique for removing the appendix, gallbladder, taking biopsies from the abdominal cavity, and resections of the small and large intestines. These operations are an established standard in world surgery, noted Dr. Petkov, cited in the announcement.
The return of doctors from European countries who wish to work at UMBAL – Burgas has been a trend for several years. They are already applying here the knowledge and skills they have acquired abroad and are training the new generation of medics, the hospital pointed out.
BTA recalls that among the specialists who chose to return to UMBAL – Burgas was also pediatric surgeon Dr. Evgeni Benchev – with experience in the UK and the USA.
