State of emergency in Pernik after road collapse
A partial state of emergency has been declared in Pernik, which will remain in force until August 24. The reason is a major collapse of a municipal road that provides access to an important gas distribution station in the "Iztok" district.
"This is a road that is not heavily trafficked by cars, but despite that, access to it has been completely blocked," explained Deputy Mayor Adrian Skrimov.
Why is this case critical?
- Strategic importance: The road serves a national security facility.
- Cause: An unforeseen landslide process that began about a month ago.
- Measures: The Headquarters for the implementation of the Municipal Disaster Protection Plan has been convened.
At the moment, the area is being monitored by the police and municipal officials. The authorities have already sent documents to the Interdepartmental Commission for Recovery and Support to secure funding for the construction of a temporary road and permanent repair of the damage.
