Burgas University Discusses Ocean and Water Restoration

Burgas State University is organizing a discussion on the restoration of oceans and waters. EU experts discussed the blue economy, marine biodiversity and the future. The university plays a key role in these initiatives.

Burgas State University „Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov“ is organizing a discussion bringing together leading experts and researchers, part of the European Union's mission "Restore our oceans and waters". The information was confirmed by the university, which emphasized the importance of the event for the future of science and sustainable development.

Representatives of respected academic institutions attended the event, including the University of Zagreb and Sofia University. The discussion included Ivelina Vasileva and Prof. Dr. Ana Gavrilovic, members of the EU mission board, as well as representatives of SU - Prof. Maya Stoyneva and Assoc. Prof. Blagoy Uzunov.

The rector of BSU, Prof. Dr. Sotir Sotirov, emphasized the key role of the university in the study of marine and freshwater ecosystems, as well as the importance of studying biodiversity. He noted the commitment of the university to projects that connect scientific discoveries with their practical application.

In an atmosphere of lively discussion, Ivelina Vasileva defined Burgas as a strategic "hub" for the development of the blue economy. She recalled the ambitious goal of the European Union - one of the five new missions is dedicated to the restoration of oceans, seas and inland waters. Vasileva stressed that universities play a crucial role in this program, providing valuable data for monitoring and solving the complex problems related to water resources.

Assoc. Prof. Lenia Gonsalves, head of the "Chemistry" department and of the Central Research Laboratory at BSU, took the initiative and moderated the discussion.

During the event, Prof. Ana Gavrilovic emphasized the complex relationship between food security, effective water resources management and the future of the blue economy. At the same time, Prof. DSc Maya Stoyneva and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blagoy Uzunov presented their scientific research, which focuses on biodiversity and innovative methods for remote study of algae.

Burgas State University is among the institutions that have signed the EU Mission Charter. The university actively promotes its goals through scientific and educational initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.
