Burgas Municipality was awarded a prestigious award in the authoritative ranking of the "Standard" newspaper - "Wonders of Bulgaria". The recognition, which falls into the category "Attraction of Bulgaria for the last 15 years", is for St. Anastasia Island. Over the past years, this place has become much more than a cultural and historical object, turning into an active art scene that attracts thousands of visitors.
The award on behalf of Burgas Municipality was received by the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Religious Affairs, Diana Savateva. The award ceremony in the "Attraction of Bulgaria" category was led by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Irena Georgieva.
St. Anastasia Island is an example of a successful revitalization of an object with an interesting past, for transformation into both a tourist attraction and a desired cultural scene. The obligatory part of the success is stable development - the island expands its capacity every year as a fully-fledged space, now accessible throughout the year, commented Savateva. These words emphasize the significance of the transformation of the island and its importance for the region.
The atmosphere in the Ivan Vazov National Theatre on the Day of the National Revival Leaders was solemn. The awarding of the prizes turned into a real celebration, gathering prominent figures from public life. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov, the deputy ministers of culture and tourism Todor Chobanov and Irena Georgieva, as well as members of parliament and public figures. All those present noted the importance of the awards and the positive impact of the development of Bulgarian cultural landmarks.
