The official ceremony was attended by Regional Governor Diko Dikov, Chairman of the Burgas Municipal Council Mihail Hadzhiyanev, Flotilla Admiral of Combat and Auxiliary Ships Radko Penev, Director of the Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection Senior Commissioner Nikolay Nikolaev, Deputy Mayors of Burgas Municipality Diana Savateva and Mihail Nenov, members of parliament, municipal councilors, public figures, and many citizens. They gathered to honor a series of official events dedicated to one of the most significant acts in our modern history – the unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia in the name of an independent and unified state.
The celebration began with a military ritual and the raising of the Bulgarian tricolor flag. As a sign of deep gratitude for the heroic deed of 1885, wreaths and flowers were laid by representatives of state and municipal authorities, political parties, public figures, and citizens. The memory of those who restored the integrity of the Bulgarian lands was honored with a minute of silence.
A special place in the program was reserved for the memorial service, held personally by Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven together with the Burgas clergy, to pay tribute to those who perished for the freedom and unification of the motherland. In his address, the Bishop highlighted the significance of the Unification and the power of history, calling for unity for a strong Bulgaria.
The Unification of 1885 itself is a remarkable Bulgarian achievement, realized through the joint efforts of the army, politicians, and the people, without relying on foreign aid. This historical act succeeded in overcoming the injustices of the Treaty of Berlin and established Bulgaria as a serious factor on the European map.
