The local administration of Burgas is taking an innovative approach to overcoming staff shortages in the healthcare sector by developing a targeted financial scheme to support medical residents. The strategic initiative covers three municipal health institutions: Prof. Ivan Temkov Mental Health Center, Specialized Hospital for Pneumophthisiatric Diseases, and Comprehensive Oncology Center.
Currently, 22 young doctors are undergoing specialization in these facilities, with the municipality providing an annual subsidy of 2,000 leva for each resident. Mayor Dimitar Nikolov emphasizes that this is a targeted investment in the future of the city's healthcare sector.
The financial support will cover a wide range of professional expenses - fees for residency modules, additional qualification courses, scientific publications, conference and congress participation. The main goal of the program is not only financial support but also creating sustainable conditions for professional realization of young medical specialists in Burgas.
The mechanism aims to prevent the migration of young medical personnel by offering attractive opportunities for career development and professional growth in their hometown. The municipal administration demonstrates strategic care for the future of healthcare through direct investments in human capital.
The program represents a long-term commitment of local authorities to improve the quality of medical services and create a sustainable healthcare ecosystem in the region.
