The Burgas branch of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is preparing to mark the beginning of its third academic year, with the ceremonial event scheduled for October 2nd, according to a message from the university in the coastal city. The event is shaping up to be significant for the educational community and is a sign of the sustainable development of academic activity in the region.
The ceremony will be opened by the Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev, as well as the newly appointed director of the branch, Assoc. Prof. Georgi Bardarov. Among the official guests are expected to be the Mayor of Burgas Municipality, Dimitar Nikolov, and the Regional Governor, Vladimir Krumov, which underlines the support of the local authorities for the development of education.
This year, the branch will welcome its first students to the Faculty of Classical and New Philologies. The training will be focused on bachelor's programs with the study of Japanese and Chinese. The specialties are aimed at "Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching - Chinese" and "Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching - Japanese". This represents an important focus in the expansion of educational opportunities in the city and reflects the growing interest in Asian cultures and languages.
The event itself will be held at the new location of the branch in Tria Co-working space, located on "Dame Gruev" Blvd. №2. This represents a significant expansion of the university's educational base in the city and creates better conditions for learning. The atmosphere in front of the new location seems to vibrate with tension and excitement. People are gathering, awaiting the solemn moment.
The development of higher education in Burgas in recent years is palpable. In 2018, a branch of the National Academy of Arts was opened. The second academic year of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" marked a significant increase in the number of enrolled students, while the branch continued to enrich the specialties offered.
In addition, in the autumn of 2024, a branch of the private theater college "Lyuben Groys" was also revealed in the seaside city. September this year was marked by the grand opening of the first branch of NATFA "Krstyo Sarafov" outside the capital. The last three branches use premises in the Culture House NHK. Burgas Municipality is showing interest in further expanding the educational infrastructure, discussing the opening of a branch with the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, and in June announced that the opening of a branch of the National Music Academy "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" is forthcoming. This shows the city's aspiration to become a center of education and culture.
