The British Foreign Office announced a large-scale sanctions operation against the so-called "shadow fleet" of the Russian Federation, which, according to expert analysis, serves as a mechanism for bypassing international trade restrictions.

Official London imposed restrictions on 135 oil tankers that are part of Moscow's illegal transport network. The goal of this unprecedented step is to cut off the financial flows fueling the Russian war machine.

Foreign Minister David Lamy emphasized that the new sanctions will deal a serious blow to the economic capacity of the Russian regime. "We will use the full power of the sanctions regime to increase economic pressure," he stated.

According to official data, these vessels have illegally transported cargo worth around 24 billion dollars since the beginning of 2024. The sanctions cover not only the ships but also two key companies - Intershipping Services LLC and Litasco Middle East DMCC.

Parallel to these actions, the United Kingdom and the European Union took additional steps to limit oil revenues by lowering the cap on crude oil prices.

This initiative takes place in the context of growing international tension around the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The British government demonstrates a firm position that it will continue to exert economic pressure on Moscow.

The sanctions campaign coincides with former US President Donald Trump's call for 50-day peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which further intensifies the geopolitical context of the event.

Experts expect these measures to have a significant impact on Russia's ability to finance its military operations, while simultaneously demonstrating the united position of Western allies.

Minister Lamy categorically stated: "As long as Putin continues to avoid serious peace negotiations, we will not remain passive". This statement clearly shows the UK's determination to continue pressure on the Russian leadership.
