EU discusses 21st package of sanctions against Russia
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced that intensive negotiations are underway in Brussels to expand the sanctions list. However, there is still no complete consensus among member states regarding all 250 items.
"Today we hope to agree on all 250 items. We are working on the 21st package of sanctions, for which we do not yet have an agreement," Kallas stated.
Bulgaria's position
The Bulgarian government has already approved its official position on the matter. Our country states that:
- It will not impose a veto on the package as a whole.
- It expresses categorical objections to the inclusion of Patriarch Kirill and Vagit Alekperov.
- It disputes the sanctioning of a Russian company that provides critical spare parts for the Sofia Metro.
Strategy for the Black Sea
In addition to sanctions, attention is also focused on regional security. Kaja Kallas emphasized the cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania for the protection of critical infrastructure and countering hybrid threats in the Black Sea.
