The Bearded Vulture – a symbol of freedom and return
The "Green Balkans" association has launched an exciting idea: for the bearded vulture to be the official symbol of Bulgaria for the Eurovision contest, which will be held in Burgas in 2027. The campaign is not just an advertisement, but a call for nature conservation.
"The bird's spread wings are associated with freedom and the pursuit of new horizons, and the species' history in Bulgaria – with recovery and a second chance," the organization points out.
The story of Boev the vulture
A central place in the proposal is occupied by the bird Boev. After traveling over 14,000 kilometers across Europe, he returned home to Bulgaria. This journey is a metaphor for the cooperation between over 10 European countries, united in the cause of restoring the species that had gone extinct in our country.
Competition for the Eurovision symbol
- The Bearded Vulture: A message of nature, recovery, and global connectivity.
- The Seagull from Burgas: A proposal from the State Puppet Theater, based on local color.
- The diversity of Poda: The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds reminds us of the 321 bird species in the "Poda" protected area.
As Burgas prepares to host Eurovision in 2027, the debate over who should be the "face" of our country is yet to come. It is indisputable, however, that Bulgaria's natural wealth is one of our strongest assets to the world.
