The legendary Bulgarian footballer Boyko Velichkov officially took office as sports director of the renowned Sofia club CSKA, as reported by the team's press center. His appointment marks an important strategic moment in the development of one of the most successful Bulgarian football teams.
Velichkov has a rich football biography directly related to the club. As a CSKA graduate, he played 17 matches and scored 3 goals during the 1995/96 season. His professional career includes stints at various Bulgarian teams - Rilski Sportist, Chardafon, Litex, Levski, Velbazhd, Spartak Varna, Lokomotiv Sofia, and Cherno More, as well as foreign clubs like Rot Weiss Oberhausen and Ilisiakos.
After ending his active playing career, Velichkov turned to coaching. He worked as an assistant at Vihren and took senior coaching positions at Chavdar Byala Slatina, Lokomotiv Mezdra, and Botev Vratsa. Between 2012-2013, he held the position of sports director at Lokomotiv Sofia, and between 2024-2025 he managed the sports activities of Pirin Blagoevgrad.
Parallel to his coaching activities, in 2013 Velichkov founded his own football school. His return to CSKA is met with enthusiasm by the management, which explicitly emphasizes his deep emotional and professional connection to the club.
