According to GERB leader Boyko Borisov, the presidential election differs fundamentally from parliamentary or local elections. While the latter are purely a competition, the presidential institution requires a figure who can unite the nation and serve as commander-in-chief of the armed forces—something especially important in the current turbulent period marked by global conflicts and wars, he pointed out to journalists in Arbanasi.

Borisov also commented on the strategy of political formations, noting that everyone is hiding behind initiative committees in the hope of attracting peripheral voters, as he believes there is no party that can win the election on its own. He emphasized the fact that, so far, no parliamentary force, not even the winners from "Progressive Bulgaria", has put forward a party candidate of its own.

In this context, the GERB leader stated that if his party were to nominate its own candidate, it would be the "greatest service" they could do for Iliana Iotova. Discussions are currently underway within GERB regarding whether to put forward a nomination and which person would be most suitable, with Borisov being categorical that the party will not offer unsolicited support to anyone.
