Iliana Iotova and Kiril Valchev lead the race for president and vice president with 43.4% of voters. Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev are second with 28.9%, according to a poll by the Myara agency commissioned by Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
Myara collected the data from 8 to 19 October. It shows what the result would be if the vote had been held in the middle of the month.
Kostadin Kostadinov and Petar Volgin are third with 10.2%. Ivelin Mihaylov and Yuliana Mateeva have 3.1%, Radostin Vasilev and Krasimir Manov 2.9%, and Ivan Hristanov and Stoyanka Cherkezova 1.9%.
About 1% say they back each of Georgi Dimov, Ivaylo Simeonov, Rosen Milenov, Volen Siderov, Rumyana Chenalova and Ivanka Tsvetanova-Petkova. Myara says it cannot yet predict how much real support they will get. Another 2.5% answer "I don't support anyone".
Expected turnout is 39.4%. The agency thinks it is probably a little higher than in earlier polls.
The pollsters say the results are a snapshot of opinion, and hundreds of thousands of adults have not yet decided who to vote for.
For more than three in four adults, the head of state's personality matters a lot. The vice president's role matters to 57.4%, but Myara says views on it are less firm. Some 67.8% back giving the president more powers. The pollsters say the answers may be partly automatic, but they say this too points to mass instincts.
The poll is nationally representative. Myara questioned 1,009 Bulgarian adult citizens across the country, in face-to-face interviews and on tablets. The margin of error is up to ±3.1 points for shares of 50%. When a percentage is calculated from the whole sample rather than from voters only, one point equals nearly 53,000 people.
