BNB: 3.9 Billion Leva in Circulation Outside the Bank's Cash Desks as of February 27

As of February 27, 3.9 billion leva remain outside the BNB's cash desks, representing 87% of the leva in circulation at the beginning of 2025. The process of introducing the euro continues.

As of February 27th, 3.9 billion leva in banknotes and coins remain outside the cash registers of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), which represents 87 percent of the leva withdrawn from circulation since the beginning of 2025. This is reported by the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) on its website.

The central bank points out that as of this date, the process of withdrawing banknotes and coins in leva and putting euro banknotes and euro coins into circulation is carried out in accordance with the current regulatory framework and approved operational plans.

The BNB reminds that as of February 1, 2026, the euro is the only legal tender in Bulgaria.

Euro banknotes and euro coins in circulation (net issue - the difference between withdrawn and deposited euro banknotes and euro coins at the BNB) as of February 27th have a total value of over 7.5 billion euros, ensuring the normal functioning of the payment system and the servicing of the economy and the population, the BNB also informs.
