As of today, Blagomir Kotsev is once again at the head of Varna Municipality, albeit in unusual circumstances. His mayoral functions will be exercised from the investigative detention center where he is located. This information was announced by Kotsev's deputy, Pavel Popov, who has been temporarily performing the duties until now.
The decision raises questions about how the municipal administration will function in the coming days. In the detention center where Kotsev is detained, only lawyers have access on weekdays. They will be the link between the mayor and the document flow of the municipality, providing him with the documentation sent via courier services for signing.
The situation provokes tension. Deputy Mayor Popov did not hide the team's determination. "We here together have decided to stop participating in this judicial farce. We challenge the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria to stop supporting this farce, to release Blagomir Kotsev. We realize that the way of working we are choosing will be associated with logistical difficulties. But these difficulties are surmountable", Popov said.
The tension is palpable. Municipal employees, observing from the sidelines, seem worried about the future. The decision to work from the detention center calls into question the effectiveness of management and raises questions about the duration of this state. The depth of legal procedures and political consequences remain unclear, but it is clear that this is the beginning of a difficult period for local authorities.
