More and more biodegradable waste in Burgas is finding an ecological solution instead of polluting nature. This happens when citizens correctly use the brown bins for biodegradable waste and the containers for separate collection. When following the rules, organic waste does not go to the landfill but is processed in the anaerobic installation, where it is converted into clean energy and compost, explained from the Municipal Enterprise “Chistota Eco”, which also services the anaerobic installation.

Every day, households generate food and plant waste. If they are thrown into the general container, they decompose uncontrollably and release harmful gases. However, when they end up in the brown bins, they are collected separately and transported to the special processing installation.

In anaerobic bioreactors, in the absence of oxygen, microorganisms break down organic materials and produce biogas, which is used as renewable energy. The residual material from the process is converted into compost – a natural fertilizer for soils and plants.

In order for the system to work effectively and to reduce pollution, it is important to dispose of the waste in the correct container:

The following are thrown into the brown bins for biodegradable waste:

In the blue containers (paper and cardboard):

(only clean and dry)

In the yellow containers (plastic and metal):

(rinsed and without food residue)

In the green containers (glass):

(without lids and without content)

The more accurately these rules are followed, the more effectively the biodegradable waste will be processed in the anaerobic installation, more green energy will be produced and the pollution of air, soil and water will be reduced. Thus, every citizen contributes directly to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
