Burgas gives a free lunch to 180 low-income people through its Home Social Patronage service, and new applicants can apply at any time, service manager Valentina Stankova said.
People with an income below €443.12 can get a lunch. The Social Assistance Directorate in Burgas checks whether an applicant qualifies.
Each weekday's menu has soup, a main course and bread, with a dessert once a week. People collect the meals from Children's Milk Kitchen points near their homes, Stankova said.
The lunches are part of the "Hot Lunch in Burgas Municipality" project, which the municipality runs for people at risk of poverty and social isolation. The European Social Fund Plus co-funds the project under the Food and Basic Material Assistance Programme 2021-2027.
Stankova says people can join the programme quickly. Applicants hand in their papers at the Home Social Patronage, 15-19 Strandzha Street.
On 18 October we reported that the Bulgarian Red Cross in Burgas provides a free hot lunch to 30 low-income people. Burgas municipality pays for the service, and the money lasts until the end of December.
