A dramatic situation with free-roaming dog packs is terrorizing the inhabitants of the resort village of Kranevo, located in the Balchik municipality. Local residents report frequent attacks that put both adults and children at risk.
A specific example of the danger is the case of Zlatka Trendafilova, who experienced a traumatic dog bite in September. The incident has traumatized her so much that she still feels afraid to go out on the streets alone.
The municipal administration currently relies on a private shelter in Dobrich, but the results are extremely unsatisfactory. In a whole year, they have managed to microchip and neuter only one dog, while aggressive animals continue to roam freely.
In an attempt to control the situation, local authorities plan to build a municipal shelter with a capacity of around 50 animals. The strategy includes neutering, deworming, and returning the dogs, but many residents remain skeptical of such an approach.
