The Burgas University of State (BDU) "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" announced an increase in the admission plan by nearly 6 percent compared to the previous year, meaning the addition of more than 268 new study places. This was announced during an official event held in the auditorium of the Medical Faculty, attended by the rector Prof. Dr. Sotir Sotirov, the deputy rector for academic activities Prof. Sevdalina Turmanova, faculty members, representatives from educational institutions, and mayors from the region.
New Specializations and Growing Interest
"The new specializations are a response to real regional needs – from medical to engineering and technological fields." – stated Prof. Sotirov.
- Introduction of the new bachelor's program "Medical Laboratory Technician" with 30 places – for the first time at BDU.
- New master's specializations: "Biomaterials and Medical Engineering" and "Event Tourism and Sports".
- The bachelor's programs "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" and "Pedagogy of Teaching Mathematics and Information Technologies" are also part of the expanded portfolio.
Admission Plan 2026/2027: 1,175 State-Supported and 517 Paid Places
The total number of places for the academic year 2026/2027 is 1,692 – a 6 percent increase from the previous year. This reflects strong interest in medical and technological specializations, particularly in "Medicine," for which 40 places are reserved under state contract and 54 for paid education.
Regional Impact and Support for Graduates
Statistics show that BDU achieves nearly 100 percent enrollment – with over 4,000 students. 14 percent of them are graduates of the Professional High School in Tourism, while significant interest comes from Aytos, Karnobat, Nesebar, Sredets, and Pomorie.
"Interest in engineering disciplines has remained strong for two consecutive years – this is a true 'renaissance' of technical education." – noted Prof. Turmanova.
Donation Campaign "Celebrate My Future"
During the forum, the donation campaign "Celebrate My Future" was launched, running from February 16 to March 20, 2026. The goal is to provide official attire for graduates from vulnerable groups who are recipients of social services. The project receives support from the Student Council and youth Rotarian clubs in Burgas.
Promising Future: Accreditation of "Pharmacy"
The Medical Faculty has already graduated its first cohort and currently trains over 200 international students from more than 20 countries. The university awaits the final evaluation for accreditation of the "Pharmacy" specialization – a key milestone in the development of the new faculty.
