The resort of Sveti Vlas will host a landmark cultural event related to commemorating the memory of the world-famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. On August 12, his bas-relief will be officially unveiled on the initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark and the "Bulgarian Memory - Dinevi Brothers" Foundation.
The solemn ceremony will be held with the participation of Ambassador Fleming Stender and the co-chairs of the foundation, Dinko and Jordan Dinevi. Sculptor Petko Yordanov is the author of the monumental artwork, which will be positioned in the specially created Alley of Nations.
The memorial is part of a large-scale international cultural project that already includes bas-reliefs of world-famous personalities such as Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Sándor Petőfi, Fyodor Oshakov, Horatio Nelson, and many others.
A complementary program of the event will be the presentation of the "Anthology of Danish Poetry", published by the University Press of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Actress Maria Markova will recite Andersen's poems for a children's audience, and Dr. Nadezhda Mihaylova - an expert in the history of Scandinavian languages, will provide additional context about the Danish writer.
The foundation's deputy director Daniela Dineva emphasized the historical value of the monument, recalling the fact that Andersen visited Bulgaria during his European journey in 1841 and dedicated an inspired travelogue to the country.
The "Bulgarian Memory - Dinevi Brothers" Foundation has been conducting active cultural and educational activities for more than three decades. The organization has created numerous remarkable sites, including the Alley of Olympic Glory, a monument to Khan Tervel, a monument to President Woodrow Wilson, and the St. Vlasiy Church.
Through a series of targeted initiatives, Sveti Vlas is gradually establishing itself as a significant center for cultural and historical tourism, attracting the attention of the international community.
