Bulgarian Posts EAD will receive full compensation for the expenses of providing the universal postal service, after the caretaker government today updated the Methodology for calculating the net costs for this activity, according to the published decisions from today's meeting on the Council of Ministers' website.
With the made changes, the company is given the opportunity to be fully compensated for the expenses it incurs when performing the universal postal service.
The press office emphasizes that the state guarantees the right of every citizen, regardless of social status, purchasing power or place of residence, to have equal access to a basic package of postal services with a certain quality and at an affordable price.
Due to the public nature of the universal postal service, its provision entitles Bulgarian Posts EAD to receive compensation in accordance with the national and European legal framework, the press office adds.
BTA recalls that last year the parliament extended by five years the term for which Bulgarian Posts EAD is assigned the obligation to perform the universal postal service, starting from December 30, 2025. According to the amendments, the performance of the universal postal service represents an unfair financial burden for Bulgarian Posts EAD, for which the company will be compensated by the state.
