In a ceremonial speech on the occasion of Railway Worker's Day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Grozdan Karadjov delivered an emotional message to workers in the Bulgarian railway system, acknowledging their exceptional contribution to national transport infrastructure.

The historical context of the holiday dates back to 1886, when Bulgaria realized its first international railway line between Tsaribrod, Sofia, and Belevo. This landmark year marks the beginning of modern rail transport in the country, as a monument to technological progress and economic connectivity.

The minister emphasized that the essence of rail transport is not measured solely by technical parameters, but above all by human potential. "Behind every train are people who, under extremely challenging conditions, guarantee the safety and reliability of transportation," Karadjov was categorical.

In his address, he frankly acknowledged the existing challenges facing BDZ and the National Railway Infrastructure Company. Problems with old equipment, insufficient funding, and low wages are not the fault of employees, but a systemic issue requiring a comprehensive approach.

A key emphasis in his speech was the understanding that whatever financial investments are made, the human factor remains crucial for the development of rail transport. "People are BDZ's greatest asset," the deputy prime minister stressed.

The contemporary context of rail transport is linked to European goals for sustainable mobility. Karadjov outlined a vision for modernization that includes digitalization, infrastructure improvement, and investments in human capital.

The company's Executive Director Martin Angelov joined the congratulations, offering special words of gratitude to current and former employees for their dedication and professionalism.

The minister's emotional appeal was aimed at motivating and recognizing railway workers: "Be healthy, confident, and proud of your work. I wish you new horizons on sustainable tracks, with a clear direction and human dignity".

The holiday on August 4th is not just a traditional celebration, but an opportunity to comprehend the significance of rail transport as the backbone of the national transport system, whose essence is defined by the dedication of thousands of professionals.

In the context of global challenges facing the transport sector, Bulgarian railway workers continue to be that constant factor that guarantees the country's connectivity, mobility, and economic prosperity.
