"Bulgaria has enough fuel. 90-day reserves are secured at nearly 98%. And we can rest assured that if a more difficult scenario with "Lukoil" arises, we will not feel a fuel crisis," stated the chairman of the State Reserve and Wartime Reserves, Asen Asenov, to bTV.
In view of potential challenges related to energy supplies, Asenov"s words come at a time of increased attention. He emphasized the importance of having stable reserves to ensure the continuity of energy supplies for the population.
In the event of a crisis, the fuel will be provided without adding the special biocomponent, Asenov explained. This is an important clarification, given potential changes in fuel prices.
"The price of fuel will be what it is at the moment on the market. As for final petroleum products, there is about 35 days of gasoline and over 50 days of diesel at the moment. "Lukoil" will not stop, but if it reduces its capacity, there are prepared options for the oil to be processed," the chairman of the State Reserve clarified. These measures are essential to maintaining market stability, especially in the context of potential geopolitical upheavals.
Asenov explained that the fuel quantities are stored both in bases of the state agency and in large warehouses. In addition, part of the fuel is also located abroad - in Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Greece and Romania. Talks have been held with the countries on whose territory the fuels are stored, emphasizing that between 7 and 45 days all quantities can be delivered from abroad. This diversification of warehouses is of key importance for ensuring the country"s energy security.
Asen Asenov emphasized that if necessary, priority will be given to releasing the fuels located first in the country. If this proves insufficient, then the reserves from abroad will also be used. This is an indicator of a well-considered resource management strategy.
"We have taken all the necessary measures and actions, so whatever happens, there will be fuel," Asen Asenov assured. The responsible institutions demonstrate confidence that the country is prepared to meet the challenges.
The chairman of the State Reserve and Wartime Reserves also explained the process of checking the fuel stocks. This check includes physical measurement of the amount of fuel, measurement of density and calculation of the level. These procedures are performed every month, and the goal is to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the information.
In addition to fuel, the State Reserve also controls other essential goods such as food and medicines. All of them are subject to monthly control so that the agency can react in case of need, Asen Asenov pointed out. This is an indicator of the wide scope of activity of the State Reserve, which is essential for the stability of society in crisis situations.
Asen Asenov also pointed out that over the years there have been several companies that have not fulfilled their obligations regarding the storage of fuel. "The public interest is protected by law. Since 95% of the companies create their reserves, it means that the public interest is protected," Asen Asenov assured. This shows that there are mechanisms to ensure compliance with the rules and protect the interests of society.
