The Ministry of Agriculture and Food initiated a large-scale informational discussion meeting, which will be held today at 2:00 PM in the prestigious "Astoria Grand" hotel complex in Sofia. The event will cover two extremely important topics for Bulgaria's future development in a European context.
A primary focus of the meeting will be the introduction of the single European currency and its potential impact on the sectors of agriculture, rural areas, forestry and hunting, fishing and aquaculture. Official institutions emphasize the significance of this transitional period.
On July 8, the Council of the European Union reached full unanimity regarding Bulgaria's admission to the Eurozone, effective January 1st of the following year. The European Parliament further confirmed this decision with an impressive majority, which definitively solidified the accession procedure.
The second key topic of discussion is the European Commission's legislative proposals to support the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period 2028-2034. EU President Ursula von der Leyen presented an ambitious budget plan worth 2 trillion euros, which she described as "the largest to date".
Within the new budget plan, approximately 865 billion euros will be distributed among national and regional partnership programs. This consolidation combines previously independent budget lines - the Common Agricultural Policy, rural development, cohesion policy, and regional funds.
The upcoming changes are already causing serious discussions among agricultural producers, who are preparing for large-scale negotiations to defend their own interests. Experts expect a complex and prolonged process of adaptation to the new European financial mechanisms.
