The caretaker cabinet made a decision to join Bulgaria to the Council for Peace, initiated by US President Donald Trump. The decision, taken at a meeting with full consensus, has a clearly expressed political character.

The cabinet press office announces that the decision has been published on the Public Consultation Portal of the Council of Ministers.

The decision is motivated by the understanding that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has long-term consequences for regional and European security, including through the intensification of unregulated migration flows.

Joining the Council for Peace is seen as a political statement of participation in international efforts to de-escalate the conflict. Bulgaria supports the US peace plan for Gaza and UN Resolution 2803.

According to the Constitution, the decision is subject to ratification by the National Assembly. Signing does not create obligations to participate in specific operations. Until ratification, Bulgaria will participate only with an advisory vote.

Caretaker Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stated that Bulgaria is joining the Council for Peace at an official ceremony in Davos.
