National authorities are taking large-scale actions to expand infrastructure for receiving refugees, government circles reported on August 1, 2025. The strategic decision is driven by a significant increase in migration flows from Eastern Europe and the Middle East region.

Specific measures include expanding capacity in three key reception centers – Elhovo, Harmanli, and Lyubimets. The planned improvements include building additional housing modules, expanding medical services, and social support for arriving refugees.

Official representatives emphasize a comprehensive approach to the migration challenge. The main focus is placed on the humane reception of refugees while simultaneously guaranteeing public order and security in the affected regions.

In the coordination process, non-governmental organizations, including the Bulgarian Red Cross, will take an active part. They will help with the adaptation and integration of people seeking international protection.
