Diplomatic efforts for peace in Ukraine
Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova stated that there is a unified position within the Bulgarian government regarding the need to seek lasting peace through European mechanisms. She emphasized that communication with Ukraine is aimed at high-level dialogue.
Every subsequent decision regarding aid – whether military-technical or humanitarian, will be taken according to the established procedure with a decision of the Council of Ministers and a debate in the National Assembly, Petrova emphasized.
The position of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Defense
- Prime Minister Radev noted that our country is suffering significant socio-economic damage and that peace will not be achieved through military means.
- Minister of Defense Dimitar Stoyanov added that a "positional war" is being observed and the accumulation of armaments only leads to further loss of human life.
- The Ministry of Defense does not foresee providing additional weapons to the Ukrainian army at this stage.
Bulgaria continues to insist on a comprehensive and realistic approach to the crisis, calling on both sides to sit at the negotiating table to achieve a just peace.
