Bulgaria eliminates dependence on Russian gas
The Ministry of Energy has officially submitted to the European Commission a National Plan for the diversification of natural gas supplies. The document is in accordance with the new EU regulation on phasing out Russian imports.
"With this strategic document, Bulgaria shows that it is acting in a timely, consistent manner and in full compliance with European goals," stated Minister Traicho Traikov.
Key priorities in the plan:
- Development of the Vertical Gas Corridor;
- Expansion of interconnections;
- Increasing the capacity of the Chiren underground gas storage facility;
- Easier access to international liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets.
The country is already implementing specific infrastructure projects that aim not only for Bulgaria's energy independence but also for strengthening regional energy security.
