Bulgaria and Iran: Diplomacy in Times of Tension
Bulgaria will strictly not allow direct military actions related to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East to be carried out from its territory. This is the key message conveyed by Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova during a telephone conversation with her Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.
The deployment of American tanker aircraft in Bulgaria is part of allied commitments and does not change our country's peaceful stance towards Iran.
Key highlights from the conversation:
- Confirmed desire to develop bilateral relations between Sofia and Tehran.
- Clear guarantee that Bulgarian territory will not be a springboard for military operations.
- Call for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of truce negotiations.
Minister Petrova emphasized that despite the presence of allied military equipment, Bulgaria remains committed to the de-escalation of tension and the diplomatic resolution of regional crises.
