A Bulgarian citizen is missing following the floods and landslides in Nepal. Information about our missing compatriot comes from the country's Tourism Board, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been officially notified by Chinese authorities about a missing Bulgarian citizen as a result of the floods in Tibet and Nepal.
The total number of people reported missing following the natural disaster has reached 1,300, including hundreds of foreigners. To date, the officially confirmed death toll is at least 270.
Our diplomatic missions in Beijing and Delhi are in constant contact with local authorities and are verifying all reports received. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifies that it cannot disclose personal data or confirm the identity of missing persons before the circumstances have been clarified and their families have been notified.
In this crisis situation, our embassy in Beijing assisted a Bulgarian citizen in establishing contact with his wife, who is traveling as part of an organized tour in the affected area and is safe in Tibet. At the same time, a Bulgarian woman in Nepal contacted our mission in Delhi. She is unharmed but lost her documents, for which she received remote assistance in obtaining a temporary passport through an EU country's mission in the region.
