The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) will return 11,843 kg of peppers to the Republic of North Macedonia after they were found to have excessive pesticide levels. The decision follows laboratory analyses that revealed chemical residues exceeding maximum allowable limits. In doing so, the agency prevented a non-compliant batch from entering the European Union market.
This case is part of a series of intensified control measures that the BFSA is implementing on fresh fruits and vegetables. Through these rigorous inspections, the agency ensures food safety, guarantees traceability, and verifies the actual origin of products on the market. This strict oversight aims to prevent food that does not meet safety requirements from reaching consumers.
