Administrative violation notices were issued to the drivers of three vehicles that passed through the Malko Tarnovo border crossing, after officers from the General Directorate of Border Police reported suspicious cargo. The operation, conducted by the BFSA at the entrance to the village of Krushevets (Sozopol Municipality), led to the seizure of a total of 2.2 tons of food products, which are set to be destroyed.
During an inspection of the luggage compartments of two buses (one with Turkish and one with Romanian registration) and one van with Romanian plates, inspectors from the Regional Directorate for Food Safety (ODBH)-Burgas discovered 1,740 kg of frozen sheep trimmings and 100 kg of banitsa pastries with minced meat and cheese. The goods lacked labels, identification marks, or traceability documents, and the sheep trimmings were stored in 58 duffel bags. Meanwhile, parallel to these events, inspections of establishments in the Varna region led to the destruction of over 550 kg of other food products.
Investigators expanded the perimeter of the operation, and while patrolling a nearby wooded area, border officers discovered an additional 360 kg of sheep trimmings distributed in 9 bags and 3 boxes. The packaging was identical to that found in the vehicles, confirming the link between the two cases.
