Inspectors at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing seized more than 600 kg of sheep fat and dairy products that were being brought into Bulgaria without permission, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said.
Inspectors from the agency's Border Control directorate carried out the check with officers from the Customs Agency. They stopped two Bulgarian-registered vehicles, a minibus and a car.
The minibus carried 245 kg of sheep fat and 50 kg of dairy products. In the car, inspectors found 375 kg of sheep fat. In both cases, the animal products were being carried in breach of the rules.
The BFSA says it checks goods at border crossings all the time to stop food and animal feed that break the rules and may be dangerous from entering the European Union.
The seized products will be destroyed.
