46 years of Atanasovsko Lake – a symbol of coexistence between man and nature

On August 12, Atanasovsko Lake celebrates its 46th birthday. On this date in 1980, the northern part of the lake was declared a managed nature reserve – an important step in the conservation of one of the most valuable wetlands in Bulgaria.

This year, the celebration offers a new experience: a bike tour that takes participants through iconic places in Burgas to the lake itself.

Event program: "Burgas: Nature on Wheels"

The bike tour is part of the project "Burgas: Nature on Wheels," funded by the "TELUS Digital Bulgaria Community Board" foundation.

Why is Atanasovsko Lake unique?

Atanasovsko Lake is a Ramsar site of international importance and part of the Natura 2000 network. It is a place for salt production, eco-friendly tourism, and home to hundreds of bird species. The organizers from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation and RIEW Burgas invite all residents and guests of the city to join the celebration, watch birds, and take a walk along the Avocet Trail.
