The Fight Against Inflation: New Priorities for the Cabinet
Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov identified inflation as the main challenge facing the country. In an interview for BNT, he emphasized that the government is taking concrete steps to strengthen regulatory bodies.
"The invisible hand of the market is important, but when rules are missing, it can be destructive. The state must regulate and ensure transparency," Pekanov stated.
Key Measures and Fiscal Discipline
- Market Regulation: Strengthening the analytical capacity of regulators following the Western model.
- Price Control: Measures to stop unfair commercial practices, especially in the context of the euro adoption.
- Fiscal Policy: The need for fiscal consolidation following years of aggressive increases in national debt.
A Critical Moment for the Recovery Plan
Pekanov warned that the situation with the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) is critical. Bulgaria is lagging behind in the absorption of funds, with dozens of projects needing to be finalized and the most difficult reforms carried out within a short timeframe.
