Asen Vassilev: Patriarch Kirill is a KGB agent

Regarding the debates on including Russian Patriarch Kirill in the European Union's sanctions list, Asen Vassilev took a firm stance. According to him, this is not about sanctions against a clergyman, but against a "KGB agent".

"It is completely reasonable to impose sanctions on an agent of the Russian services, and I do not see a problem with that," Vassilev stated.

His position comes in response to a statement by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova-Chamova, who had previously expressed concerns that such symbolic sanctions could be counterproductive.

Why are sanctions necessary?

Vassilev called for clarity regarding why European measures are being questioned, emphasizing that they have always been in Bulgaria's interest so far and have not harmed our country.
