The Varna District Prosecutor"s office has requested the permanent arrest of a 31-year-old man from Burgas, charged with cultivating cannabis and possession of marijuana, the Appellate Prosecutor"s Office in Varna announced. The information was released today.
As already reported by BTA, the man was detained on September 15 during a specialized operation of the GDBOP-Burgas. The action took place in a village in the Sredets municipality, where plants of the cannabis genus were discovered and confiscated, cultivated in a specially equipped greenhouse.
Subsequent searches uncovered significant quantities of dry herbal mass, presumably marijuana.
Today, charges against the man were officially brought on two separate offenses. His detention for up to 72 hours was decided by the supervising prosecutor. The Sredets District Court is expected to consider the prosecutor"s request for permanent arrest.
The Appellate Prosecutor"s Office in Varna clarified that the pre-trial proceedings are still in their initial stages. Further investigative actions are to be taken, including botanical and physicochemical expertise, which will contribute to a more precise determination of the type and quantity of the confiscated substances and, accordingly, to the refinement of the charges brought.
These expert opinions are crucial for establishing the exact scope of the criminal activity. The investigation will continue to establish all the facts and circumstances surrounding the case.
The request for permanent arrest is an indication of the prosecutor"s serious attitude towards the case and their conviction that the accused poses a danger to society.
For now, details about the scale of the operation and other possible individuals involved are not being disclosed until the investigation is complete. Pending the court"s decision, the atmosphere surrounding the events remains tense.
