Juicy chicken bites on a potato bed, covered with a rich crust of "yellow cheese", "mayonnaise", and "tomatoes" – this dish combines simplicity and home comfort, making it ideal for a family lunch or dinner.
Required ingredients
- 1/2 onion
- cooking oil
- salt and pepper
- 4 potatoes
- garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 2-3 chicken breasts - about 700 g total
- oregano and paprika to taste
- 2 medium firm tomatoes
- 120 g yellow cheese
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- dill sprigs
Instructions
1. Slice the onion into thin half-moons and distribute it at the bottom of a baking tray lightly greased with oil. Sprinkle with "salt" and "black pepper" to create a fragrant base for the dish.
2. Cut the chicken breasts crosswise into fillets. Season them with "salt", "black pepper", "paprika", "oregano", and "garlic powder". Drizzle with 2 tbsp of oil and let the meat marinate for about 10 minutes while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
3. Peel the potatoes, wash them, and slice them into rounds. Arrange the potato slices over the onion, overlapping them slightly to cover the entire bottom. Sprinkle with "salt", "black pepper", "paprika", and "garlic powder", then drizzle lightly with oil.
4. Arrange the marinated chicken fillets tightly over the potatoes without overlapping them. Cover the tray with aluminum foil and place in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for about 35 minutes.
5. While the dish is baking, grate the "yellow cheese". Peel the tomatoes (if possible) and cut them into small cubes. Place the tomatoes and yellow cheese in a bowl, add the "mayonnaise", and stir until you get a uniform mixture.
6. After the dish has been baking for 35 minutes, remove the tray from the oven and spread the tomato-cheese mixture evenly over the chicken fillets. Return the dish to the oven without foil for another 12–15 minutes until a golden and appetizing crust forms.
7. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Sprinkle generously with fresh "dill" sprigs, then portion and serve the dish warm.
