Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov and the ministers from the caretaker government took the oath before the National Assembly in the presence of President Iliana Yotova.
“I swear in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the country and to be guided in all my actions by the interests of the people. I have sworn“, said the caretaker prime minister and the ministers from the "Gyurov" cabinet, after which they handed over their oath sheets.
Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov addressed the National Assembly with his first words as Prime Minister, declaring that the caretaker government assumes responsibility for the preparation and conduct of fair elections and will work impartially in the interests of Bulgarian citizens.
“Today I am speaking not only to this hall, I am speaking to every Bulgarian citizen who expects not promises from the state, but responsibility. I declare that I personally and the caretaker government take responsibility to prepare and conduct fair elections“, said caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov before the Members of Parliament.
Before the MPs, he noted that at a time of internal tension in the country, they cannot choose their tasks.
“We take on the challenge of governing the country until a regular cabinet is elected. Without hysteria, with reason and firmly grounded in reality. We do not promise miracles, reforms in two months, historical turns, but we have the will to govern honestly and responsibly in the interests of Bulgarian citizens and the state," said Gyurov.
He stated that the caretaker government will support efforts for lasting and just peace in Ukraine and wherever conflicts take human lives.
“I declare that we will work with our allies in the European Council, in NATO and the UN. Bulgaria has a place among the democratic states and will defend it with predictability, economic stability and the protection of the democratic order. I firmly believe that democracy is not a slogan, it is the only working response to crises, and elections are the only legitimate way out“, he said.
He called on citizens to be active during the elections.
“That is why I call on Bulgarian citizens on April 19. Vote! Do not give up your right to choose and do not allow your vote to be turned into an instrument of someone's interest.“
In his speech, the Prime Minister also specified the priorities of the caretaker government.
“In addition to the fairness of the elections, we will work on key management tasks. First – ensuring financial stability in conditions of an extension budget. Implementation of the measures from the plan for the adoption of the euro. We will prepare the new extension budget and the basis for the 2026 budget. Second – fair distribution of funds for the municipalities with an effect for all citizens, and not for someone's and campaigns. Third – rhythmicity of the payment of pensions, social payments and assistance for the most vulnerable groups – the socially weak and the unemployed. Fourth – restoration of the legality in the management of the prosecutor's office and the normal functioning of justice,“ Gyurov pointed out.
He assured that there are no agreements in the caretaker government.
Earlier, President Iliana Yotova issued the decrees appointing the new caretaker government and will schedule the elections for the National Assembly.
