Strong condemnation of the act of vandalism
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Bulgaria has issued an official statement categorically condemning the arson of diplomatic vehicles parked in front of our embassy in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia.
This is a demonstrative act of aggression, threatening the health and lives of the staff of our diplomatic mission, the statement says.
Details regarding the incident
An unknown person set fire to the vehicles located in front of the official entrance of the mission. Thanks to the quick reaction of the Bulgarian consul with a fire extinguisher, the damage was limited. The MFA demands urgent action from the authorities in Skopje to identify the perpetrator.
Reasons for the escalation of tension
- Aggressive political discourse inciting hatred against Bulgaria.
- Lack of adequate penalties for previous incidents, which creates a sense of impunity.
- Examples of glorifying arsonists in the RNM instead of prosecuting them.
The MFA emphasizes that the Bulgarian state will continue to use all international mechanisms to protect its interests and the security of Bulgarians in the RNM. The government of North Macedonia also condemned the act of vandalism.
