Radev: "I will impose reservations on the new sanctions package"
During parliamentary control, Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated categorically that he is prepared to block the 21st package of European Union sanctions against Russia. He justified his decision by citing the protection of Bulgaria's national interest and the country's energy security.
"As for whether I am prepared to impose reservations on the 21st package – it is not that I am prepared, I will do it. Plain and simple," Radev told the deputies.
The problems facing "Lukoil Neftohim Burgas"
The Prime Minister explained that the sanctions regime, also imposed by Litasco, has put the refinery in Burgas at risk of shutting down. The main challenges include:
- Logistical difficulties: An attachment on oil purchases from Swiss companies has drastically narrowed supply options.
- Technical wear: The refinery has been forced to work with heavy types of oil, other than the "Urals" grade for which it was designed, leading to the wear and tear of the installations.
- High costs: Longer routes for tankers have increased production costs.
Radev announced that an agreement has been reached for Litasco to lift the attachment, which will allow "Lukoil Neftohim" to buy crude oil without restrictions, in strict compliance with European requirements. This will ensure the stable operation of the enterprise and the efficiency of its logistics.
